Kid Dental Treatment
Healthy smiles begin in childhood, and establishing good oral care habits from an early age is paramount to ensuring a lifetime of dental well-being. Our kid dental treatment services include check-ups, cleanings, fillings, and preventive care.
Fluoride
Fluoride, a naturally occurring mineral, plays a crucial role in safeguarding teeth from decay. Benifits of fluoride include:
Strengthening Enamel: Fluoride interacts with tooth enamel, fortifying it against acid attacks and reducing the risk of cavities.
Remineralization: Fluoride encourages the remineralization of weakened enamel, reversing early stages of decay.
Tooth Sensitivity: Fluoride aids in reducing tooth sensitivity, ensuring kids can enjoy their favorite foods and drinks without discomfort.
Primary Tooth Protection: Young children often lack the fine motor skills necessary for effective brushing. Fluoride application provides extra protection to their vulnerable primary teeth.
Systemic vs Topical Fluoride
- Systemic fluoride is typically ingested through a public water supply. While teeth are developing beneath the gums, fluoride works to strengthen tooth enamel, making it more capable of resisting cavities.
- Topical fluoride to aid in the prevention of dental caries (cavities). This topical application occurs through toothpaste, mouthwash, and (for children who have high caries risk) professional fluoride treatments.
Pit & Fissure Sealant
The chewing surfaces of our teeth comprise “mountains” known as cusps, with “valleys” or fissures in between. In some individuals, these fissures can be deep or narrow, leading to the accumulation of food particles and stains. If this trapped debris is not removed, it can result in cavities. Even after removing the food, the nature of these fissures makes it highly likely for food to become lodged once more.
Fissure sealants are a type of flowable cement used to effectively seal these spaces, preventing the lodging of food particles and thereby thwarting the development of cavities.
It’s important to note that fissure sealants are not limited to milk teeth; they can also be applied to adult teeth if deep fissures are present. This preventive measure offers benefits for patients of various ages.
Myofunctional Appliance
The alignment of teeth depends on the spaces within the bone. Bone growth, in turn, is influenced by the forces exerted by the muscles surrounding the bone. In some cases, a child’s tongue may not be in the correct position during function and at rest, leading to compensatory movements in the surrounding muscles. This can impede bone growth, subsequently resulting in the misalignment of teeth.
Myofunctional appliances play a crucial role in re-training the tongue and the surrounding muscles. This training aims to promote jaw bone growth to reach its full genetic potential, ultimately contributing to proper dental alignment.
