Removable Denture

Removable denture is a treatment option for individuals experiencing tooth loss. Tooth loss can significantly impact a person’s ability to eat, speak, and feel confident about their appearance.

A removable denture is a device that offers patients the flexibility to wear or remove it according to their convenience. The base material of the removable denture is designed to fit comfortably and securely within the patient’s mouth. In the meantime, synthetic teeth are bonded or attached to the base material, effectively filling the gap left by the missing natural teeth.

This removable denture not only grants patients the choice of when to wear the appliance but also serves as a cost-effective solution to address tooth loss.

FAQ

I recently had a tooth extracted. How long should I wait before start making a denture?

At Skylight Dental, we recommend that patients wait for a minimum of 3 weeks before commencing the process of crafting a denture. This duration ensures adequate time for the gums and underlying bone to heal properly.

Nevertheless, we also offer an immediate acrylic denture option, allowing patients to receive their set of dentures on the same day as the tooth extraction. It’s important to note that this type of denture may require more frequent adjustments in the future.

What are the steps in making a removable denture?

Generally, the fabrication of removable denture involves four visits:

  1. Dental impressions are taken by the dentist.
  2. Bite recording.
  3. Try-in appointments, where the patient tries a partially completed denture, and adjustments are made if necessary.
  4. Issue appointment, during which the final product is adjusted and fitted into the patient’s mouth.

The amount of visits can be reduced depending on the chosen base material, number of teeth being replaced and the positioning of the replacement teeth. Some patients can obtain their dentures in as few as two visits!

If you need your dentures more quickly, please let us know during your consultation, and we will do our best to arrange for a faster process that suits your needs.

Why should I remove my denture during sleep?

Removing dentures during sleep is recommended for a few reasons:

  1. Tissue Recovery: Allowing your oral tissues to rest without the constant pressure of dentures.
  2. Proper Cleaning: Removing dentures at night gives you the opportunity to clean them thoroughly, ensuring the removal of food particles and plaque that can accumulate throughout the day.
