Type of Braces :

At what age should we start orthodontic treatment?

It depends on the types of teeth malalignment. For example, patients who have impacted teeth or underdeveloped jaw should get orthodontic treatment at younger age as their jaw is growing and malalignment can be solved more easily. While patients who have crooked teeth can get treatment at any age.

How long does orthodontic treatment takes?

It depends on a few factors, such as the severity of malalignment, the patient’s age, and their compliance (cooperation). A simple case can be completed in 6-12 months, while a more complex case may take longer than 2.5 years. Generally, the treatment duration falls within the range of 1-3 years.

Is it painful to wear braces?

Braces are designed to gradually move the teeth from one position to another. You won’t experience any discomfort during the adjustment appointment, but you may feel some tightness or discomfort afterward. This is due to the gentle forces applied to the teeth to facilitate their movement.

Can I have my braces without any tooth extraction?

Extractions are usually done to provide space to correct crooked teeth. Thanks to advancements in technology, many orthodontic cases can now be treated without the need for tooth extraction. However, certain cases may still require tooth extraction to enhance the facial profile. An orthodontic consultation and diagnostic records are necessary to determine whether tooth extraction is necessary or not.
